What is the MSD program?

A 16-month, intensive STEM graduate program designed for students without a computer science background.

Is the MSD program accredited?

Yes, it is a fully accredited Master of Science program offered by the University of Utah’s Kahlert School of Computing.

Is the program online or in-person?

The MSD program is in-person only. Students are expected to be on campus for at least 20 hours per week.

Who can apply?

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and demonstrate mathematical and logical reasoning skills. No prior computer science experience is required.

What are the application deadlines?

Priority Review Begins: January 1, 2026. Final Deadline: March 15, 2026.

Are GRE scores required?

No, the GRE is optional.

No, admissions are only offered for the Fall semester.

What is the difference between MSD and MS in Computer Science?

MSD is designed for career changers with no CS background. MS CS is more research-oriented and assumes prior CS education.
